Contribution of the Republic of India to Global Security: Reflections by His Excellency Vijay Khanduja, Ambassador of India to Zimbabwe
H.E Ambassador Khanduja made reflections online on the topic “India and the International Security Matrix: India’s Contribution Towards International Security.” Students of Contemporary Diplomacy and International Relations at the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID) alumni, stakeholders and members of the public attended the Special lecture. Ambassador Khanduja expressed India’s peaceful foreign policy stance and its open approach to building alliances and partnerships to consolidate India’s national interest and security.
He was clear that India had diplomatic engagements with both the USA and the Russian Federation. India practised a practical approach to its cooperation with the world. As a nuclear power India shared a “No First Use” commitment; towards peaceful uses of atomic energy; and a commitment to nuclear non-proliferation/shared nuclear security concept. He highlighted India’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Africa. Ambassador Khanduja hailed India-Zimbabwe relations which are characterised by close engagements in various sectors which include education, health and developmental partnership. The Ambassador celebrated India`s leadership in space exploration and Information Technology. India, he stated, was one of the largest democracies and could not be underestimated in its contribution to global security, stability and to global public goods. India is a member of the UN, G20, BRICKS, IBSA, the Commonwealth to mention a few. Mr V. A. Chikanda, Chairperson of the ZID, moderated the presentation.
